14 Weeks Pregnant: How Big is My Baby?

Are you fourteen weeks pregnant? Congratulations! You're now well past the high-risk stages of pregnancy, and your odds of having a healthy baby are now excellent. However, it can be hard to envision your baby before she is actually born. Fetuses develop so rapidly that it may be difficult for you to visualize your little one's growth and development. Here's what your 14-week-old fetus looks like now.

The Baby's Exact Size
Your baby is growing fast; she's now 3.42 inches long from crown to rump. This week, she will jump in size by more than half an inch-- by the end of the week, your baby will be a full four inches long from the top of her head to her butt. She'll also gain an entire ounce of weight, growing from 1.5 ounces to 2.5 ounces over the course of just 7 days. Get ready for the belly-swelling, if it hasn't started yet!
A 14-Week-Old Fetus is the Size of...
You can't always visualize a size based on numbers alone, but comparison might help. At 14 weeks, your baby is roughly the same size as an orange or a small apple. Her total length from head to toe (remember that she is curled up in a fetal position) would measure about as long as a CD or a ballpoint pen. She's gaining more weight every single day!
What the Baby Looks Like
No doubt about it-- your 14-week-old fetus now looks like a baby. She has distinct facial features and is beginning to make expressions. She can squint, frown and even make a face similar to crying. She's also drinking amniotic fluid and extcreting it as urine. If you could look inside right now, you might even see your little one sucking her tiny thumb. You're only a few short months away from the final stretch now. Good luck!
