If you're used to grabbing a doughnut on your way to work, don't go to the same bakery for breakfast if you're pregnant. Instead, swing by a completely different bakery to start a new habit. Likewise, if you always have a Coke when you eat pizza, go to a different restaurant to start a new habit toward healthier pizza-- and water instead of soft drinks.
Keep a Healthier Kitchen
Don't buy cookies, chips, candy or soft drinks to keep in your kitchen. If these items aren't in your house at all, you won't be as tempted to indulge in them with any regularity. It may be hard to pass by the Little Debbie snacks next time you're in the grocery store, but it's much easier to say no before you've spent money on these junk foods during pregnancy.
Pick Healthy Substitutes
Healthy junk food may seem like a contradiction, but it does exist-- and it's great to have on hand if youIf you're a pregnant junk food junkie. crazy about hamburgers, get veggie-burgers instead. If you love potato chips, find a baked alternative. If you're craving soda, grab some sparkling fruit juice. If you love fries, go for oven-baked sweet potato fries. You can still enjoy your old favorites by finding healthier alternatives. Visit your local health food store and you may be surprised by the delicious, healthy alternatives to regular junk foods.
Find Convenient Health Foods
There are plenty of sandwiches, microwave meals, deli foods, fruits and vegetables that take little to no time to prepare. There's no reason to resort to McDonald's just because you don't have time to find a pregnancy-friendly alternative to junk food. Choose convenient foods that are healthy and provide everything you need for a healthy pregnancy. Stick to high-fiber, high-protein alternatives to regular junk food, such as sandwiches on whole-grain bread, ants-in-a-log, hardboiled eggs and organic microwave meals.
